This guide is only about teaching you how to subtitle your shows, NOT about quality divx/sbc encodes, what filters to use or anything else. If you want to learn some techniques on how to clean your videos and how to encode in divx, please visit www.doom9.net. Step 4 We are done with Sub Station Alpha. Open Virtual dub and load your movie, then select the filters option from the Video menu.
Step 4.1 The menu that will appear will show all active filter, that would be none to start with, later on you can use this menu to change the settings of filters you have added. Click the Add button.
Step 4.2 You are looking at all the filters that are present in your plugin directory. There are filters and plugins available for just about anything you wish to do. Locate the Subtitler plugin and select it, click OK after you have highlighted the Subtitler plugin.
Step 4.3 Click on the dots on the right size of the textbox, and find/select the script you have made with Sub Station Alpha. You should enable the software text antialiasing for better quality subs. After you have done this select OK. And close all open windows except for the main Virtualdub screen, we are now ready to start encoding/saving our movie including the subtitles.
Step 4.4 We are now ready to save your movie. For convenience we will be using Divx Low Motion codec since this does not involve a lot of settings, and we are focusing on subbing, not encoding. Select the compression option from the Video menu in Virtual dub.
Step 4.5 From the list of codecs that are installed on your system, select DiVX MPEG-4(Low-Motion). We will not configure any settings, but you can play around with them if you like. Click OK after you have selected the right codec.
Step 4.6 Finally, we are done! All that is left is saving/encoding the movie! From the File menu in Virtualdub select Save AVI, give it a name and find a good location for it. You have now finished your first subbing project!
I hope you found this guide useful and clear enough to make sense. I tried to be as specific as possible without trying to sound like I am talking to a four year old (I hate it when people do that ;). Let us know if we missed something or if you think something needs clarification. This is my first shot at writing a guide (all thanks to the people bugging me for it for ... a while now). Have fun, and drop me a line if u are subbing some new anime show and need some help, or just want to share the wealth =) |
