DigiSub - A step by step guide that will teach you to subtitle in no time!

Hi and welcome to class, I have made up this guide since a lot of people asked me how to sub, and I hate to repeat myself, so, here we go. It is divided into 4 parts. If this is your first experience with digisubbing I suggest you read all four parts, and read them good, I will not answer to emails with questions that are answered in the guide (I might start keeping track and submitting those emails to a certain mailing list however). Lets get on with it already ....

I have just finished putting the forum online, please use it to ask your questions before emailing me. Any suggestions should be placed there also. Thanks and good luck subbing.

Software you will need to digisub :

Virtual dub (official website with download links)
Subtitler plugin for Virtual dub (right click and save as)
Sub Station Alpha (official website with download links)
DiVX ;-) 3.11 Alpha Codec (website with download links)

Before moving onto the guides download and install these programs. You will need to place the Subtitler plugin in you plugins directory of Virtualdub. If for some reason you don't have a plugins directory, create a directory called plugins within your main Virtualdub directory and copy it there.
Also take some time to familiarize yourself a little with these programs, it will save you some time and aggravation later on in your subbing career.

The guide :

Step 1 - Ripping the audio stream
Step 2 - Creating an ssa subtitle file
Step 3 - Changing the appearance and location of your subtitles
Step 4 - Encoding/combining your subtitles and movie

If you have any questions or suggestions after you are done with this guide, let me know at I@is-otaku.com. Have fun, and good luck.
