In case you have not seen the first season of Vandread here is
a small recap. Hibiki is a boy stuck in the bottom class of society,
he dreams of piloting a dread someday, but the system wont get
him closer than assembling parts. He makes a bet with some friends
that traps him onboard a ship headed for battle against ... women.
After
the battle is lost, Hibiki finds himself with 2 other men on board
an entirely female pirate ship. The males and females live on
seperate planets and reproduce by cloning. They are tought from
birth to hate eachother.
This
makes for some funny situations, but since they are all facing
a common enemy a truce is called and they start to co-opperate.
Fast
forward to Season 2.
Hibiki
, Dita and every one else all of a sudden become much deeper characters.
The humor is still there, but they have evolved from simple characters
to animated people with emotions and inner turmoil. Season two
seems geared towards the scenes behind and after the battles more
than the actual battles.
Sure,
there is still plenty of fast paced c.g. and Dita and 'Mr. Alien'
will find themselves in a lot of comical situations, but now the
actual feelings of these two, and everyone else get explored.
It
makes for a much more complete show than it was before.
If
you like sci-fi anime and don't mind some mushy moments this one's
for you.
